Exclusive Aircraft Safari - Botswana and Victoria Falls
ITINERARY
Flight route: We take off from Lanseria airport and our first stop is Francistown (Flight time: 1h45). After immigration, customs, and refuelling we continue our route further west and fly past Kubu Island (35min) - a very special place on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans, where we have the opportunity to admire the largest Baobab trees in the whole of Southern Africa from the air. Low level we fly across the extensive salt pans en route to our first camp (15min).
Day 1 to 4 (3 nights): Jack’s Camp
Jack's Camp is located deep in the Kalahari Desert on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans - the largest salt pans in the world. Jack’s is a classic desert safari camp accommodating 16 guests in eight large walk-in tents, each with en suite bathroom with flush toilet and shower. Each tent also boasts an outdoor shower for those who like to shower under the stars. Accommodation is comfortable and in keeping with the character of the Makgadikgadi. Facilities include a mess tent for dining and a tea tent with Persian carpet cushions for socialising.
After the rains (December to April), there can be enormous herds of wildebeest, zebra and springbok, with the accompanying predators on the open grasslands. The summer rains leave a warm shallow layer of water that entices waterfowl and flamingos. Activities are conducted by knowledgeable guides in open 4x4 vehicles custom-designed for this terrain. Only in the dry winter months are Quad bikes available, allowing guests to travel across the salt pans. Walks with a Bushman tracker and visits to historical Baobab trees, used by Livingstone and Selous, are alternate activity options.

Flight route: We say fair well to the vast open spaces of the Kalahari Desert and head north over the Nxai Pan National Park and outskirts of the Chobe National Park to Kasane (1h00 mins) for refuelling, immigration, and customs. We then cross over into Zambia and fly along the shores of the mighty Zambezi River to Livingstone (15 mins).
Days 4 to 6 (2 nights): The River Club
The River Club is situated on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River, 18 kilometres upstream from Victoria Falls. The camp has a distinct Edwardian flavour, and guests here enjoy the sights and sounds of Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River in a peaceful and tranquil setting away from the crowds.
Ten luxury chalets overlook the Zambezi River, and have en-suite facilities including a bath, shower, toilet and basin. The rooms are all completely open in the front giving guests the best possible views of the Zambezi. The main dining room and lounge also has an interesting library. The pool seems to be part of the river itself - flowing seamlessly from one into the other.
The Victoria Falls is one of the seven Wonders of the World and is arguably the greatest waterfall in the world. Daily trips to the Falls are a highlight. Boating to the Zambezi River's islands provides relaxed afternoon activities, and sundowner trips to capture those glorious African sunsets are a highlight. The Zambezi National Park is located just across the river, and elephants and other wildlife can be seen on the river bank. A rich bird life is found in the area. Hippos are regularly sighted (and heard) along the river's edge. Optional activities include white water rafting, bungee jumping, abseiling, fishing trips and aerial flights over the Falls.

Flight route: Via the Zambezi and Kasane (15 mins) we return to Botswana and fly along the beautiful Chobe and Linynati River to our first wildlife camp in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve (30 mins).
Day 5 to 9 (3 nights): Savuti Camp
The Linyanti Reserve consists of 125.000 hectares of prime wildlife countryside in Northern Botswana. The reserve is bordered to the north by the Linyanti River and to the east by the Chobe National Park. Excellent grasslands and waterholes are along the Savuti Channel and the Linyanti Inland, and acacia and mopane forests sustain large numbers of Elephants in the winter months. The Savuti area is famous for its Lions, which have been documented in National Geographic films.
Savuti Camp is situated in the Linyanti Reserve along the Savuti Channel in northern Botswana. The camp is built about 17 kilometres ‘downstream’ from the source of the Savuti. The channel stopped flowing in 1980 and what was a Hippo-filled river, is now wide, open grasslands. Savuti Camp is a comfortable camp providing accommodation in 7 walk-in tented rooms with en-suite facilities. Each room is raised off the ground on wooden decks. The camp has a thatched dining area, bar and plunge pool, all on raised wooden decks. There is also a curio shop and a boma area.
There is a waterhole close to camp and this attracts large numbers of animals that guests can view from the camp.
Activities include game drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers, hides (including a woodpile hide located at the waterhole in front of the camp) night drives and walks with an armed guide. Wildlife in the area includes all of Botswana's big animals and is one of the best areas in the country to see predators. There are also good concentrations of plains animals in the area.

Our flight route takes us along the Zibanjanja lagoon and wide open bush veld to the magical Okavango Delta and one of its jewels – Little Vumbura Camp (20 min).
Days 9 to 12 (3 nights): Little Vumbura Camp
Little Vumbura Camp is a beautiful 6-roomed tented camp situated to the north of Mombo in a private reserve bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Little Vumbura offers both water and land activities. Mokoros (dugout canoes) traverse the flood plains under the guidance of our experienced polers. Open 4x4 Land Rovers allow guests to get close to animals in the savannah areas. Guests usually have the opportunity to see Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Sable and Buffalo, along with all the plains animals, providing an excellent all-round wildlife experience in this remote corner of the Okavango. Walks (on request basis only) around the islands as well as night drives give guests the opportunity to enjoy Africa from a different perspective.
The 6 tented rooms are large and comfortably appointed and each have an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, a shower and flush toilet. The camp has a plunge pool. Access into this area is only by aircraft and then guests are transferred by means of vehicle and then mokoro or boat to the camp from the airstrip.

Day 12 - return flight
Our flight route back takes us over some more stunning areas of the Okavango Delta with its endless open floodplains, forest islands, and immense variety of wildlife to Maun (30mins) where we refuel, and clear immigration & customs. On our way back to South Africa we fly over the old crater of the Pilanesberg National Park and Sun City to the final destination at Lanseria (2h45mins).
YOUR PILOT & GUIDE:
Dr. Sybille Quandt is a wildlife veterinarian, an independent game consultant, and author of over a dozen publications - in English and German - on wildlife. Sybille is also a commercial fixed wing and helicopter pilot, guiding exclusive safaris.
Her work as a wildlife veterinarian and her involvement in various wildlife projects has taken Sybille around much of the continent, from Mali to Tanzania and Botswana, from Malawi to Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The safaris initially grew out of enquires from friends abroad, asking about what to see and where to go in Southern Africa, while the flying licences grew out of that and the on-going veterinary work. Sybille has a very strong affinity with elephants and is keen to share her intimate knowledge of these and other magnificent creatures with her fellow travellers.
